Old Jaffa Tour

Jaffa...

How many words and blessings this, one of the most ancient cities (at least 4000 years old) received during its history? The towers of Jaffa, were among the first things pilgrims from all over the world saw from their ships going to Israel. Jaffa is the gate of Zion. First port was built in Jaffa by Egyptians, who might have used it to transport materials for mummification of their faros, of that day. Jaffa was one of the most prosperous ports in the Middle East: it saw Richards the Lion Heart landing on its shores during the crusades, it saw Napoleon, the king of Artillery and future French Emperor, during his Middle East Campaign, and the plague coming as a result of his deeds, it saw Turkish Osman Empire to rule it up to the WWI leaving us with todays architectural face of the city. This is the place, were Jews started to grow oranges, and this is the place of the first railroad, that made it happened to get to Jerusalem in 4 hours instead of a week on camels. Jaffa is the place, were Tel Aviv started, and as a result, Tel Aviv swallowed Jaffa, to became its district.

Jaffa is magnificent at night - very much recommended tour!
